Kalamazoo County authorities investigating another report of inmates left in van

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo County authorities say an investigation is underway after inmates were apparently left in a locked transport van for 13 minutes.

It happened Sept. 25. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report alleging that three inmates were “left physically unattended” inside the transport garage at 1500 Lamont Ave.

According to the sheriff’s office, the inmates spent about 13 minutes inside a transport van, secured with belly chains. At the time, the van was locked and the garage was closed, the office said.

Authorities said no inmates were hurt and there was no danger to the public. Though there was video surveillance, the sheriff’s office acknowledged that its procedures require staff to be physically present with inmates in the transport garage…
