KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The city says it recently cleared the largest homeless encampment in Kansas City history, located in the River Market. However, some business owners, workers and at least one resident say they continue to see open drug use, threatening behavior and unlit areas in the neighborhood.
Business owner describes parking, safety concerns
Steve Stegall owns The Blue Line. He said employees who clock out after midnight face a choice between parking close to the building and risking a ticket, or walking through unlit lots or across a nearby bridge over the highway.
“They continue to park around the building because they don’t want to risk their lives,” Stegall said. “They don’t want to risk what’s going on over, over across the bridge or down across the alley.”
Stegall said the nearest alternative parking lot is about 500 feet from his building. He said that distance is unlit at 3 a.m., when his employees get off work…
