Olathe Arts Festival
October 9–10
Olathe’s going big for its fourth annual Olathe Arts Festival. This Friday and Saturday, more than 60 local artists, nearly a dozen food vendors, and eight musical acts will enliven the Johnson County Square. You’ll also find a full marketplace of locally made goods, a massive Kidtopia for the little ones, and an area for yard games. Entry is free.
The Planets
October 9–11
Every night this weekend, the Kansas City Symphony will present The Planets, a four-movement performance meant to evoke the world beyond Earth. It’ll be a sweeping performance at the Kauffman Center, with violist MingYu Hsu playing a movement solo and the women of the Symphony Chorus joining the orchestra during the fourth movement. Tickets start at $55.
Liberty’s Beacon week three
October 9–11
At the end of September, a mind-boggling light show began at the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
Liberty’s Beacon, which runs for the next five weekends, turns Liberty Memorial Tower into an undulating hi-fi art display. Three artist teams contributed eight-to-ten-minute projections, all with original musical scores, that blanket the tower and its north wall.
