Power restored to more than 1,000 in downtown Grand Rapids after outage

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 1,000 customers across downtown Grand Rapids were without power for more than an hour Wednesday morning amid a sprawling outage Consumers Energy said was caused by a raccoon.

An outage affecting around 1,150 Consumers Energy customers was reported around 7 a.m. Power was restored by 8:30 a.m.

A Consumers spokesperson attributed the outage to “animal contact” from a raccoon affecting the downtown substation. Initial estimates placed the anticipated restoration time between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., according to messages sent to customers…
