Sterling police investigate student’s notebook reading ‘death note’

A student’s notebook that read “Death Note” prompted an investigation from police and school officials in Sterling, Massachusetts, last week, leading the student’s temporary suspension but no criminal charges.

Sterling police said Tuesday that they investigated “a potential student safety concern” reported by administrators at Chocksett Middle School Wednesday, but found no immediate threat to anyone in the community.

Principal Tina Boss told the community that student explained their notebook involved an anime TV show and was not a threat. “Rather, the information indicates that the notebook was indeed connected to a television series and an inappropriate theme that has made its way into the school.”…
