JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – During the Jackson City Council on October 6, 2026, councilmembers discussed the future of a surplus land parcel near the Pearl River and Interstate 55.
They debated a resolution to allow Jackson Mayor John Horhn to negotiate an option for the sale.
Councilman Ashby Foote, Ward 1, suggested meeting with the Mississippi Gaming Commission to build a casino on the parcels. Currently, Jackson residents have to commute to Vicksburg or Choctaw to gamble at casinos.
