Brookfield seeks funds for 31st Street trail, Salt Creek bridge

Brookfield is applying for nearly $2.8 million in the form of combined federal and state grant funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation for two projects that would increase connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians across town.

Village trustees on Sept. 28 voted to approve the submission of two applications to the department’s Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program for the Des Plaines River Trail South Extension project and the Creekside pedestrian bridge and bike path project.

The former project seeks to create a bike lane along 31st Street from Prairie Avenue to Brookfield’s eastern limit about 300 feet beyond Golfview Avenue as part of a larger project to fill gaps in the Des Plaines River Trail and increase regional connectivity…
