A family-owned and operated Lebanese restaurant with a robust menu of mezze, halal meats and vegetarian dishes plans to open its first Pierce County location by early next year.
Tanoor Lebanese Grill & BBQ is renovating the former Famous Dave’s, 1905 S. 72nd St., which has been empty since Bellevue-based Ascend Hospitality abruptly closed its Tacoma and Tukwila restaurants in late 2024. The shopping plaza known as Tacoma Place is a bustling one, anchored by WinCo Foods, an LA Fitness and several chain restaurants, including Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Applebee’s. It’s also home to a few independent eateries that offer Thai, Vietnamese, Cambodian, shaved snow desserts and bubble tea.
Tanoor will be the largest independently owned and operated food business in the plaza and one of a limited number of Middle Eastern restaurants in the city, which tend to be fast-casual and, for whatever reason, centralized on the west side…
