- David Lee Roth Teases Acoustic Version of Iconic Van Halen Song and It Has Fans ‘Melting’ (parade.com)
David Lee Roth, the original and unmistakably vibrant frontman of Van Halen, has experienced an unusual and challenging year in 2026. Known for his energetic performances and eccentric charm, Roth launched a solo tour in April that featured many classic Van Halen songs. However, by July, he abruptly canceled nearly all his remaining shows for the summer and fall without providing any explanation.
In a gesture of goodwill, Sammy Hagar-Roth’s former Van Halen successor and longtime rival-reached out publicly. Hagar invited Roth to join him at his Las Vegas residency, offering support and a chance to perform together.
“I want to say from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. I hope you’re well and there’s no physical problem,” Hagar said on Instagram.
“Mike and I love that you’ve been out there supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of. When you’re ready to carry on, you go, brother.
Mike and I support you. Come to Vegas in September-sing a couple of songs, MC the show, just do what you do, which is pretty damn entertaining.”
Despite the open invitation, Roth did not respond publicly nor did he appear at the residency. Instead, on October 7, he posted an acoustic rendition of Van Halen’s iconic hit “Jump” on Instagram. The stripped-down performance struck a chord with fans, who praised the emotional depth and vulnerability he conveyed in the slower, intimate version.
Some fans suggested this heartfelt post might be tied to the anniversary of Eddie Van Halen’s passing on October 6. The legendary guitarist died six years ago from complications related to throat cancer.
Though Roth and Eddie Van Halen had a famously complicated relationship, Roth has expressed affection and respect for his former bandmate since his death. Reflecting on their bond, Roth once shared a poignant memory: “I hugged my brother Ed, and I said, ‘Man, do I miss you.’
And he said, ‘I miss you too, Dave.’ Then he added, ‘But you know what?
You should still go to hell.’ And I said, ‘Save me a seat.’”
As Roth continues to navigate this unpredictable chapter, fans remain hopeful for his return to the stage and further musical moments that honor both his unique legacy and the enduring spirit of Van Halen.
