Mentor police chief to retire; successor chosen

MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor Police Chief Ken Gunsch will retire this month after 33 years with the department, and Capt. Michael Majernik will succeed him, the city announced.

Gunsch’s last day will be Oct. 31. The city will hold a retirement reception for him at 2 p.m. on Friday, in the second-floor conference room at Mentor Municipal Center.

Gunsch joined the Mentor Police Department in 1993 and served as a patrol officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain before becoming chief. He was sworn in as chief on May 29, 2019…
