San Diego County Closed 8 Food Facilities in a Week, Including La Mesa IHOP, With Vermin Cited in Most

San Diego County health inspectors closed eight restaurants and food facilities between Sept. 25 and Oct. 1, including an IHOP in La Mesa and a food stand at SeaWorld San Diego. Vermin violations appeared in seven of the eight closures, according to county inspection records compiled by SanDiegoVille.

The IHOP at 8747 Broadway in La Mesa was “Ordered closed upon reinspection on October 1 for Vermin – Major,” the listing states. Five other facilities received new B or C grades during the same period after inspectors found major violations, many involving food held at unsafe temperatures.

For diners, the records are a reminder that a restaurant’s grade card can change quickly. A closure sign replaces the grade when inspectors find a hazard serious enough to stop operations, and the facility cannot reopen until the county signs off.
