2 killed when homemade plane crashes near Petaluma airport

Two people were killed Wednesday morning when a homemade plane crashed in a field shortly after taking off from Petaluma Municipal Airport, setting the aircraft on fire and prompting the closure of a nearby stretch of East Washington Street.

The airplane went down at about 10:45 a.m. in a field adjacent to Rooster Run Golf Club, just across from the airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Both people aboard died, Petaluma police Lt. Garrett Glaviano confirmed. No one on the ground was reported injured…
