CEDAR RAPIDS — An icon in the Cedar Rapids dessert scene has left on a bittersweet note after feeding the city’s sweet tooth for over six years.
Dawn Murray, known for the last six years as “The Cheesecake Lady,” announced her final departure in a post to a social media group for Cedar Rapids foodies and small business owners. Murray has moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, to focus on her health after being diagnosed with a “pre-stomach cancer” condition exacerbated by her strenuous work schedule.
“Doctor’s orders … eat more, sleep more, work less. I can’t do any of those things being The Cheesecake Lady. And as long as I’m living in (Cedar Rapids), I would not be able to say no,” she said in response to one fan’s question. “I had to make a very tough decision. My health or my business.”…
