Texas-born Raising Cane’s rival to open first San Antonio location. Here’s when

The fastest-growing chicken chain in Texas has been eyeing Alamo City for months. Luckily, it sounds like San Antonians have only a few more weeks before they can take a bite of the homegrown Raising Cane’s rival.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers, the 34-year-old College Station-born chicken chain, was initially eyeing the end of September for the opening of its newest restaurant on Bandera Road, the company’s first in San Antonio. September has come and gone, but the company’s franchisee for the new location told MySA it will open on October 27.

First Layne’s Chicken Fingers in San Antonio

The San Antonio Layne’s was first announced in March with a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing calling for a $500,000 renovation. Construction officials told MySA that getting power to the building, a former Carl’s Jr., was a major issue, but those issues appear resolved. Drivers along Bandera Road can see the Layne’s Chicken Fingers sign light up at night, and the lights are on inside the restaurant, indicating the company cleared a major hurdle.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers first opened in College Station in 1994 and has since expanded to more than 50 restaurants across Texas. Currently, the closest restaurants to the Alamo City are in Seguin (1510 TX-46, Seguin, TX 78155) and San Marcos (1617 Aquarena Springs Drive, San Marcos, TX 78666).

Meanwhile, Layne’s hasn’t been quiet about its San Antonio expansion. A billboard near Bandera and Guilbeau was put up a few weeks back, heralding the arrival of Layne’s Chicken Fingers with a “Coming Soon” message…
