Chattanooga backs $27M police HQ rebuild as calls grow for 911 telecommunicator raises

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Questions and frustration are growing in Chattanooga after the City Council backed a $27 million plan to rebuild part of the Chattanooga Police Department’s headquarters, even as Hamilton County 911 leaders say the city has not approved a requested pay increase for emergency telecommunicators.

Chattanooga city council moved forward Tuesday night with plans to rebuild the old police headquarters from the foundation up, with the work to be paid for through the city’s fund balance and money set aside from previous years.

But the discussions did not sit well with supervisors for the Hamilton County 911 telecommunicators…
