‘I owe it to my son’: FWCS parent disputes with middle school over security video

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It’s been 19 days, and one Fort Wayne mom is still asking for answers: How did her son, who has special needs, miss the bus last month?

“I’m hurt, but my hurt comes from feeling like I can’t protect my child,” said Yakiesha Allen.

‘Where’s my son?’

Allen did not want to share her son’s name or show her face because of privacy concerns. However, she let WANE 15 record her account of everything that happened since September 18 at 2:44 p.m., when Allen’s mom told her she needed to pick her son up from school. Allen was confused because her son should have boarded the bus around 2:10 p.m.

“According to his IEP [Individualized Education Program], and given that he is a special-needs, non-verbal autistic child, someone is supposed to be with him at all times. Therefore, there’s no way he should have been left at school or missed the bus,” Allen said…
