Four pink or red dishes kick off a rainbow-inspired tour of Spokane-area restaurants

Red or pink-colored foods are incredibly common and, by nature, incredibly appetizing to most. A seared steak, for example, can range from a pale pink to juicy red, depending on how you like it prepared. A glass of ruby-red wine is often the perfect pairing.

Bright red tomatoes are a pop of color when sliced and laid atop a juicy burger patty or sandwich, and when cooked down to become the base of a pizza or pasta dish. Sweet, juicy strawberries or raspberries fresh from the local farmers market can be plucked from a basket as a snack or simmered into jewel-toned jams and pie fillings. While naturally pink dishes are not quite as prolific, the hue brings to mind plenty of treats: a fluffy spool of cotton candy, a piece of bubble gum or strawberry icing coating a soft, chewy sugar cookie. The following examples span the spectrum of red and pink foods. (CHEY SCOTT)
