Missing mudflap leads Arizona troopers to truck driver with no CDL due to failed drug test

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) Highway Patrol ordered a truck driver off the road after a traffic stop for a missing mudflap revealed multiple violations.

On September 29, 2026, an AZDPS trooper with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit stopped a semi truck without a trailer traveling in the Phoenix metro area after spotting that the truck was missing a mudflap and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

During the traffic stop, “the Trooper pointed out that his driver’s-side window had an AZDPS sticker that read, ‘Safety Belt Use Required In This Vehicle.’”

Additionally, “The driver’s log book showed him in ‘sleeper birth status’ [sic] while he was driving,” AZDPS said…
