Days late ‘revisions’ trouble council members as Albany budget review begins

ALBANY — The finance committee was stunned.

Moments before city lawmakers were to begin the first of what is expected to be a series of painful meetings with top officials on Mayor Dorcey Applyrs’ 2027 budget, a Common Council aide handed members of the Finance, Assessment & Taxation Committee a memo from the city budget office outlining “revisions” to the proposed $257.5 million spending plan the mayor announced on Oct. 1.
