Indianapolis man sentenced to 117 years for deadly Christmas Day mass shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man will spend more than a century in prison for a mass shooting that killed a woman and wounded five others on Christmas Day.

Dauzon Garzon received a 117-year sentence Thursday for the 2024 shooting that killed Ana Paredes Teran. In August, a Marion County jury convicted Garzon of murder, four counts of aggravated battery and five counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon following a three-day trial. Garzon also pleaded guilty to a firearm sentencing enhancement.

“Ana was an innocent woman who lost her life on Christmas Day, a time when families should be coming together,” Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said. “Her loved ones are left grieving a loss that never should have happened, and four other victims continue to live with the consequences of one person’s choice to use a firearm. Today, the defendant has been sentenced to more than a century behind bars for the devastation he caused.”…
