39th annual Apple Umpkin Festival draws a big crowd

A continual stream of thousands of people were showing up all weekend at the Gaslight Village of Wyoming’s 39th Annual Apple Umpkin Festival on Sept. 26 and 27. It is a favorite local and regional event that draws people to the area from Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, and according to the license plates of some of the cars, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada as well. No other event transforms the normally quiet village as well, but local volunteers, organizations seem to always meet the occasion.

In spite of the current economy people could still find some reasonable prices. Attendees could park for $5, or get a hotdog for the same price. The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Troopers ensured traffic flowed around the village pretty well, minimizing the frustration that some summer events might cause. There was free shuttle service from the school parking lot to the village hall, with handicap parking available at the school.

Some might see the Apple Umpkin Festival as the symbolic end of summer and the introduction of the new fall season, with art and craft vendors, music, Halloween merchandise, lots of Bills themed items and of course, there’s the apple flavored sausage.

There was something to offer almost everyone there, with about 200 arts and craft vendors. All kinds of food was offered by the Wyoming Hook and Ladder, food vendor booths and food trucks from around the area and beyond. There was a lot of entertainment, almost too long to list, including Jim the Balloon Guy and the Lake Country Cloggers…
