Lot Owner Beside North Providence Town Hall Threatens Court Action

The owner of a lot next to North Providence Town Hall told the council that Town Hall employees and visitors park there daily. He said the town once paid $400 a month for the lot and no longer does. He said he may take the town to court. Mayor Charles Lombardi said the town would post a custodian outside to keep people from parking there. The council approved by voice vote a motion asking the fire department whether a fence or locked gate is allowed. No payment or tax change was voted on.

North Providence, R.I. — A business owner whose parking lot sits beside North Providence Town Hall told the Town Council on Tuesday that he may take the town to court over cars he says belong to Town Hall employees and visitors, according to the North Providence Town Council’s published meeting recording.

The council did not resolve the dispute. Instead, it approved by voice vote a motion to ask the fire department whether a fence or a locked gate can be placed on the property. The council member chairing the meeting told the owner, “We’ll get back to you when we hear a response.”
