‘It’s immeasurable:’ Drug bust seizure could have prevented thousands of overdoses

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Police continue searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a months-long drug investigation, as doctors describe the impact of more than 30 pounds of drugs seized so far in the case.

Horry County Police say they have seized more than 30 pounds of drugs so far in the investigation centered on a Sept. 30 bust on Freemont Road, including methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana.

Fentanyl amount raises concern

Doctors say the amount of fentanyl recovered in the bust, 3.32 pounds, is particularly concerning. Less than a gram of fentanyl can be deadly, depending on the person, and one pound is a little more than 450 grams.

Fentanyl can also commonly be laced into other street drugs such as methamphetamine or cocaine, according to doctors…
