California grape growers are facing a difficult harvest season as declining wine consumption leaves tons of grapes unsold and some vineyards struggling to stay afloat.
Taylor Serres, a fifth-generation grape grower at Serres Ranch in Sonoma, said about 30 tons of grapes, worth approximately $100,000, went unsold this year. The excess fruit will be cut from the vines and composted.
