U.S. House: Colorado’s ‘sanctuary’ policies threaten public safety

A report released today by the Republican-led U.S. House Judiciary Committee charges that Colorado’s ‘sanctuary’ policies, particularly those in Denver and Boulder, undermine immigration enforcement and threaten public safety by, among other actions, restricting local authorities from working with federal authorities.

The interim staff report, published Oct. 9 by Committee Chairman U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, argues that Colorado has been lax on enforcement and, in some cases, has even given in court preferential treatment to people illegally staying in the U.S.

Colorado’s officials and their allies have argued that state resources should not be commandeered by federal authorities for immigration enforcement. Some Democrats have also criticized the actions of the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement…
