‘The World’s Longest Yard Sale’ Is 690 Miles Of Antiquing Fun That Stretches From Michigan To Alabama

If you love antiquing, hunting for a good deal, or if your idea of a fun vacation is one where you get to while away the afternoons window shopping, then you may want to consider visiting the 127 Yard Sale on your next summer road trip. This massive, multi-state yard sale is billed as “The World’s Longest Yard Sale,” which runs every year for four days, typically from Thursday to Sunday during the first week of August. The route spans 690 miles through Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. It attracts hundreds of thousands of shoppers, vendors, and visitors each year who descend on the small towns along U.S. Route 127 to sell and barter for everything from books and ball gowns to baseball gloves and baby dolls.

The 2026 event featured more than 10,000 vendors across more than 35 major vendor stops and numerous smaller roadside sales. Though antique hunters can pick one or two of the stops to visit, ambitious, adventure-seeking bargain shoppers who wish to make the entire 10-hour drive will find a lot to see and do along the way, including state parks, museums, wineries, and local eats. Though the main event is antiquing, the 127 Yard Sale is just as much about exploring local communities as it is about finding bargains.

A 690-mile yard sale with a 40-year history

The 127 Yard Sale started in 1987 as a way to encourage travelers to detour from popular interstate highways like I-40 or I-75 and take the scenic back roads through rural communities instead. The 127 Yard Sale gets its name from the route it follows for much of its length: U.S. 127. While the event was initially designed to draw visitors into the small towns between Kentucky and Tennessee, it has since grown to its current six-state, 690-mile route.

The route starts in Addison, Michigan, and ends in Gadsden, Alabama, with major stops including Van Wert, Ohio; Liberty, Kentucky; and Pikeville, Tennessee, among others. While the yard sales at these stops are massive, featuring 100 or more vendors, they’re also interesting pit stops in their own right. For example, Van Wert is a charming city filled with scenic trails, tasty bites, and artsy shops; Liberty, Kentucky, offers walking trails along the water at Liberty Lake; and Pikeville, one of Tennessee’s friendliest towns, is tucked in a valley full of misty waterfalls and purple mountains. The 127 Yard Sale’s official site includes a detailed list of things to do along the route, along with hundreds of suggested lodging options…
