LAS VEGAS — Jade Castro remembers Gabby Williams as a playful, goofy 11-year-old. That’s when they were teammates on the Mission Rec Rebels club basketball team in San Francisco, part of a group of girls who simply loved to hoop.
So it counted as a bit surreal for Castro in recent months, every morning on her drive home from the gym, to see the billboard near Interstate 980 and Jackson Street in Oakland. There, staring down at her, was the adult version of Williams.
