Louisiana authorities have charged a 71-year-old woman with animal cruelty following a disturbing discovery in her Morgan City residence. The case highlights the ongoing challenges of animal welfare in residential settings.A routine welfare check in Morgan City, Louisiana, turned into a horrifying discovery last Thursday when police found the remains of 22 cats inside the home of Sheri Hite, 71. According to police reports, 14 cats were stuffed inside her freezer.
The investigation began when concerned neighbours contacted authorities about Hite’s well-being. Upon approaching the residence, officers immediately noticed a deceased cat visible from the entrance and detected what they described as a “strong odor” emanating from inside. After obtaining permission to enter, police were overwhelmed by what they officially described as an “unbearable odor” throughout the home. This prompted them to secure a search warrant for a more thorough investigation of the premises.
