Another frosty night for some in the DMV

Tonight, once again the National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia, along with a Freeze Warning for counties east of the Blue Ridge mountains, where the growing season is not quite over. That will come to an end however overnight, as both cold alerts begin just after midnight and run through mid-morning Monday.

As chilly a start as it will be Monday morning, the afternoon will warm to the mid-60s in D.C. making slightly below average for October. The entire work week, it appears that daytime highs will be in the 60s, with overnight lows in the 40s in and around the Beltway. Our far western counties will be cooler both during the day and at night, but all places regardless of temperatures, will be sunny to mostly sunny. East of I-95, there will be some clouds around because of a coastal storm off the Eastern Mid-Atlantic coastline.

While the coastal storm lurks nearby, most long-range forecast models don’t have the storm on shore, yet there could very well be a few spotty showers and breezy conditions, mainly for the Eastern Maryland shore and Delaware, and potentially at times Southern Maryland as well. Outside of the spotty showers, the concern will be wind and coastal flooding at times of high tide. Winds close to the coast look to average between 15 and 25 mph during the Monday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon timeframe. Highest gusts of 25 to perhaps 35 mph will be down across southern Maryland and along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, where coastal flooding is a concern. As for daytime highs and lows, after this chilly weekend, with tons of sun for most folks, the thermometer is forecast to top out in the mid to upper 60s each day with overnight lows in the upper 30s and mid 40s.
