HAMPTON, Va. — It took two weekends to fully repave the westbound Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, but work on the eastbound side finished much more quickly, with officials saying a second weekend of closures is not needed.
Officials reopened the eastbound HRBT tunnel ahead of schedule on Sunday night, saying repaving work on both eastbound travel lanes had been completed. Interstate 64 had been closed at the eastbound tunnel since Friday night for the repaving.
All planned repaving work is now finished, with VDOT saying a scheduled closure for the weekend of October 30 – November 2 is no longer needed…
