TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Most of Tucson’s 100-Acre Wood Bike Park opens to the public Monday, Oct. 19, after the city transformed the park following years of homeless encampments and multiple cleanouts.

Tucson Parks and Recreation said the grand opening of the park will be delayed, as a contractor found illegally-dumped construction materials that contained dangerous substances while cleaning the western area of the park.

“Testing has confirmed the presence of asbestos-containing material in the western area near ‘Black Mountain’ at 100-Acre Wood Bike Park. The safety of park visitors and staff is our top priority, and we are taking every step necessary to address it. The affected area is fenced off and will remain closed until remediation is complete. The rest of the park will open as planned on Monday, Oct. 19. We don’t have a reopening date for that area to share yet,” Tucson Parks and Recreation said in a statement to 13 News…
