BRANDON — Marcus Bowers, the longtime publisher of the Rankin County News and a former Mississippi Press Association president, died Monday, Oct. 19, according to association Executive Director Layne Bruce.
Bruce said Bowers died in a hospital emergency room following a heart condition. Additional details were not available in the association’s announcement.
Bowers, who had been a fixture at events around the Rankin County area for many years, sold the Brandon newspaper this summer after five decades in publishing. He served as the association’s president in 2006-07…
