HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — A $6.2 million housing development is coming to the Burgess community, bringing 24 affordable, single-family homes to an area with deep agricultural roots.
Habitat for Humanity of Horry County broke ground Wednesday on Marlowe Village, a new neighborhood aimed at helping local working families become homeowners.
The nonprofit plans to build the 24 homes over the next three to five years, working alongside Horry County, local businesses and community donors to complete the development.
“This work is really important to provide access for families who are teaching in our local schools who are, filling essential roles in Horry County to provide them the opportunity to own a place and know that they can stay here,” said Meagan Michal, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Horry County.
The development will be built next to Freewoods Farm, recognized as the nation’s only African American historical living farm museum…
