A Franklin County judge sentenced a Whitehall man to 23 to 28½ years in prison on Wednesday for the fatal stabbing of a 49-year-old Obetz woman found dead in her home last year. Jeffrey Caudill, 46, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering in connection with the April 2, 2025, killing of Jessica Bird, avoiding a trial on the original murder charge he had faced.
Common Pleas Judge Stephen McIntosh handed down the indeterminate sentence, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch. The Dispatch reported that officers discovered Bird’s body in the 5200 block of Groveport Road and that the complaint described her wounds. WBNS-TV 10TV reported that Caudill was taken into custody in Columbus and initially charged with murder.
Official sources have not disclosed the relationship between Caudill and Bird or what led to the stabbing, and those details remain unaddressed in court records reviewed for this case.
