A New Jersey township council meeting erupted into chaos when Mayor Matthew Bianchini suddenly left his seat and charged toward a resident with whom he had been involved in a months-long dispute, forcing other people in the room to intervene before the confrontation became physical.
The incident happened Wednesday, October 21, during a public meeting in Pemberton Township, Burlington County, where resident Michael Sawka was sitting in the audience. Video captured the mayor rushing toward Sawka before being restrained and escorted away, shouting threats as he left the room.
In a video report carried by ABC 7 Chicago, Action News reporter Elizabeth Worthington spoke with both men about the confrontation. While Bianchini accused Sawka of repeatedly harassing his family, the resident insisted that his criticism was directed at questionable government spending and called for the mayor to resign.
