A man who was found dead on Mount Whitney after failing to check out of a motel has been identified as 49-year-old Winston Chu of Santa Clara, authorities said Friday.
The Inyo County Coroner’s Office determined that Chu died from multiple traumatic injuries caused by a fall. His next of kin have been notified.
Chu had been reported missing Oct. 19 after motel staff in Lone Pine discovered that he had failed to check out and left personal belongings behind. Staff told authorities that he had planned to hike in the Mount Whitney area, the sheriff’s office said…
