(Oakland) — Late-game heroics Friday night propelled St. Albert football into a Class A state quarterfinal for the first time in six years.
Paired with clutch defensive stops in the second half, a field goal from Cooper Hamilton as time expired gave the Falcons (9-1) a 19-16 win over the Riverside Bulldogs (7-3) on the KMAX-Stream, punching their ticket to a state quarterfinal for the first time since 2020.
“It was back and forth for a little bit with some ebbs and flows,” said St. Albert Head Coach Donnie Woods. “But, the guys have been in these situations before, we had seen (Riverside) before, and this is why we schedule tough opponents. Our defense settled in for the second half and then we didn’t put together a whole lot offensively until those last drives. But, kudos to our guys for the game winning drive in the two-minute drill and then Cooper Hamilton hammering it through to give us the win.”…
