New road opening today in Fort Myers potential game-changer for traffic

Today is a big day for traffic flow improvement in Lee County.

Lee County is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. for the opening of the Three Oaks Parkway Extension. After the ribbon is cut the new road will officially be open for north-south traffic in one of areas in Fort Myers with the highest volume of traffic.

Lee County’s Three Oaks Parkway Extension: What to know

  • The project is what is classified as a Tier 1 Capital Improvement Project Priority for the Lee County Board of County Commissioners.
  • This project completes the Three Oaks Parkway corridor, which provides critical north/south relief to Interstate 75 by providing a major arterial roadway from Daniels Parkway south through the Village of Estero, the City of Bonita Springs and Collier County.
  • Specifically, the Lee County Department of Transportation project extends Three Oaks Parkway across the Fiddlesticks Canal to Daniels Parkway. Motorists will notice additional work happening in the area after the ribbon cutting, but the new portion of Three Oaks Parkway will be open and ahead schedule, according to a Lee County press release.
  • The new Three Oaks Parkway roadway section is a four-lane divided roadway with two 11-foot wide lanes in each direction, a 5-foot wide bike lane and 6-foot wide sidewalk on each side of the roadway. The median width varies from 14 feet to 18 feet.
  • A new roundabout at Fiddlesticks Boulevard and Old Fiddlesticks Boulevard provides access to the Publix Shopping Center.
