A vehicle first thought to be sinking in the Black River turned out to have been underwater for some time, and it remains on the riverbed after an unsuccessful attempt Monday to pull it out, according to the Independence County Dive Team.
Jackson County requested the dive team’s help at 11:45 a.m. Monday for what was believed to be a freshly submerged vehicle sinking in the river near the Elgin access, the team said in a Facebook post.
