Yukon Man Sped Past Dismissing School; Trooper Used Bean Bag Round After Chase

A trespassing call at a Yukon business turned into a high-speed chase through city streets, residential neighborhoods and a school zone on Sept. 29, ending after a tactical maneuver stopped the vehicle and a trooper fired a less-lethal bean bag round to take the driver into custody. The man accused of leading officers on the pursuit, Angel Perez, has since pleaded guilty to eluding police and will serve a five-year suspended sentence, according to online court records.

A Harassment Call Spirals Into a Chase

Police were first called to the business after a caller reported that Perez was harassing employees and driving recklessly in the parking lot, according to KOCO. When officers caught up with him, Perez sped away, according to police, setting off a pursuit that drew in both Yukon officers and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers. The chase wound through city streets, neighborhoods and a school zone before it was finally brought to a stop.

Authorities told OKC FOX that Perez reached speeds of 80 mph on S. Yukon Parkway and at times drove into oncoming traffic. The station also reported that he sped past Yukon High School as classes were being dismissed.

Standoff Ends on Yuhoma Drive

Officers tried multiple maneuvers to end the chase before it finally stopped in front of a house on Yuhoma Drive, in a neighborhood near Vandament Avenue and Holly Avenue. Even with his vehicle disabled, Perez refused multiple commands to exit, according to Detective Joey Rushing. The same account notes that once he did get out, Perez continued to resist officers’ commands.

That resistance led an OHP trooper to deploy a less-lethal bean bag round to bring Perez into custody. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries before being booked into jail, per the same report. Yukon police announced the arrest and the charges filed after the pursuit through the city.

Guilty Plea and Suspended Sentence

Online court records show Perez has since pleaded guilty to charges of eluding police and will serve a five-year suspended sentence, the station’s report states. The records cited do not detail the exact terms of that sentence or the full case disposition…
