AUSTIN ( Austin Business Journal ) — Another pin is falling as Highland Lanes prepares to close — four years after its owners shuttered the 62-year-old Dart Bowl in 2020.

Highland Lanes, the north Austin bowling alley at 8909 Burnet Road that first opened its doors in 1976, will close by the end of this year, co-owner John Donovan said, although a specific date hasn’t been set. A 300-unit multifamily development is expected to take the bowling alley’s place, according to a zoning change review sheet filed with the city by Armbrust & Brown.

“We don’t own the building (and) we will be losing our lease,” Donovan said. “Right now, we have through the end of this year, and past that, that’s really all I know.”
