NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Manny Gonzales’s campaign for the United States Senate has ended after the former Bernalillo County Sheriff did not receive enough signatures to run for office. According to the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office, Gonzales needed 2,351 signatures and turned in 875.

The former Democrat had changed his affiliation to the Republican to run against incumbent Sen. Martin Heinrich (D). Since Gonzales was disqualified, the race shifts now to Sen. Heinrich versus Republican challenger Nella Louise Domenici who announced her campaign last month.
