Central California forecast: A mix of rain & snow in higher elevations loom across Valley, foothills

The National Weather Service’s Hanford office has issued important updates for Central California, indicating a mix of precipitation patterns and potential winter weather in the northern Sierra zones.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for elevations above 6,000 feet, with a 50 percent chance of at least 6 inches of snow in these areas during the Wednesday evening through Thursday system.

As the system moves southward over the region, it weakens, leading to lighter precipitation in areas south of Fresno County.

Probabilities for significant precipitation drop from about 50 percent in Fresno to near 15 percent in Bakersfield for amounts exceeding 0.10 inches in a 24-hour period.

A temporary break from precipitation is expected on Friday before a series of systems arrives over the weekend, extending into early next week.

These systems are anticipated to bring light to moderate precipitation, with brief periods of heavy rainfall possible. In the valley, forecasted rainfall amounts range from 0.10 to 0.25 inch on Saturday, followed by 0.25 to 0.50 inch each day from Sunday until Monday.
