Henry, the mascot of Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, is scheduled to retire on February 23 after 13 years of service. Henry’s tenure began in 2011 when he arrived at the Chuck and Brenda Silcox Animal Shelter in poor health. Code Compliance Director Brandon Bennett saw potential in Henry and committed to his recovery, resulting in a significant transformation. Bennett and Henry, who have a strong relationship, will retire together at the end of the month.

Henry became a familiar face of the Fort Worth Animal Shelter as a working dog. He participated in many special events, including visits to local elementary schools with former Mayor Betsy Price. As the city’s canine ambassador, Henry consistently worked to raise awareness about the issues faced by homeless pets.

Henry’s contributions go beyond his ambassador role. Ten years ago, he played a key role in raising over $1 million for the construction of a new medical treatment ward at the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center, thanks to a collaboration with a group of donors.
