Ex-DPS employee found incompetent to stand trial for assaulting child

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — After being indicted by a grand jury last October , the ex-school employee accused of hitting a toddler was found incompetent to stand trial today.

Darrick Sorrells was caught on video assaulting a functionally-impaired 3-year-old last year. This led to charges of one count of assault and two counts of endangering children.

Court documents stated he is “not now competent to stand trial” and “does not understand the nature of the pending charges and is unable to assist in the preparation and presentation of his defense.”
