Two charged with fentanyl trafficking, transported from NY to Connecticut

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men from New York have been indicted on charges of trafficking fentanyl.

They were identified as Winifer Acosta Jiminez, 29, and Ovidalis Jiminez Pujols, 38.

The investigation, beginning in February 2023, focused on a wholesale supplier of fentanyl and other narcotics with distribution points across the northeastern United States.

Acosta Jiminez and Jiminez Pujols are alleged to have transported two kilograms of fentanyl from New York to Milford on Feb. 22.

A grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment on January 23 charging both individuals with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. This offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 40 years in prison.

Jiminez Pujols, who has been detained since his arrest in February 2023, appeared in Hartford federal court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Acosta Jiminez, released on a $100,000 bond pending trial, also entered a plea of not guilty on January 31, 2024.
