Recurrent Energy to support Microsoft solar needs in Louisiana with newly financed 127 MW project

Canadian Solar Inc. subsidiary Recurrent Energy said recently it secured $160 million in project financing for its 127 megawatt (MW) Bayou Galion Solar project in Louisiana, and that Microsoft Corporation will purchase 100 percent of the site’s energy and renewable energy credits.

Development of Bayou Galion began in 2018 and construction started in December 2023. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2024. Primoris Renewables Energy, Inc. is leading that construction, as well as engineering and procurement efforts. When finished, Recurrent Energy will own and operate Bayou Galion.

“We are very pleased to announce the successful close of project financing and PPA signing for Bayou Galion Solar in Louisiana,” Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, said. “This project represents an important milestone as we continue to advance our pipeline in new markets and increase project ownership.”

By the end of September last year, Louisiana had a total of 145 MW of operating wind, solar and energy storage capacity.
