PACOLET, S.C. (WSPA) – The Spartanburg Academic Movement announced on Feb. 2 Spartanburg School District 3 and Spartanburg School District 7 will receive part of a five-year $15 million federal grant to help each district expand its 3K childcare programs, bring students wider access to health resources, and hire more staff.
The Full Service Community Schools grant was provided by the U.S. Department of Education and will provide funding for the creation of a mobile health clinic, more 3K classrooms, family navigators, behavioral specialists, site coordinators and Continuous Improvement trainings for teachers.
For District 3 Superintendent Dr. Julie Fowler, providing young children and their families living at or below the poverty-line is an important goal she has.
“We know that there are a lot of three and four-year old students that are not in quality pre-school programs and a lot of them are not in a pre-school program at all,” said Fowler. “This is an opportunity for a free public education for ages three and four.”
