The name Aretha Frankenstein’s alone was enough to pique my curiosity and send me and The Grub Spouse to South Knoxville on a weekend morning. Turns out that Knoxville is home to the second location of this Chattanooga-based breakfast-and-lunch eatery. The Spouse and I showed up too early to partake of the lunch fare, but we found enough morning offerings to get the job done.
The menu features several three-egg-based breakfasts as well as shrimp and grits and the Super Dave Scramble — four eggs made with onions, jalapeños, mushrooms, potatoes and cheddar cheese. Also, the breakfast burrito is filled with scrambled eggs and a choice of four toppings.
I ordered one of the 10 omelet creations listed. I took note of the Mexican, the Feta & Spinach and the Philly before landing on the Italian ($12.95) — a three-egger filled with ricotta cheese, mushrooms, onions, Italian sausage, red peppers and cayenne pepper. Although the menu doesn’t say so specifically, this meal includes a biscuit and a side item. I chose gravy to go with my biscuit, foregoing other sides like fried potatoes, applewood bacon, sausage and grits.
