When speaking to officials, the Gerrardstown woman claimed she forgot that she was carrying the loaded gun with her. TSA’s Federal Security Director Scott Johnson stated his disappointment that the incident occurred and said “Responsible gun owners do not bring their guns to a checkpoint.”
Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms if they are kept unloaded and packed in a hard-sided locked case. They also need to be brought to the airline check-in counter to be declared and cannot be included in carry-on luggage. Click here for more information about how to legally fly with your firearm.
